SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1: Nkwali Camp - On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport for your safari with Robin Pope a guide from will meet you. The drive to Nkwali Camp is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. Nkwali Camp has a wide view of the Luangwa River. On Robin’s private land, and overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, Nkwali is ideally situated for the start of your safari. The six rooms all look out over the river and have open air bathrooms. Depending on your arrival time in the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon to the back of Nkwali or if in the afternoon for tea and the afternoon and night game drive.

Day 2: Nkwali Camp - At dawn breakfast is served around the campfire. The porridge heated on the fire and toast cooked by the coals. The morning walk or drive will leave soon after, entering the park by boat from the camp or by the nearby pontoon. The birds and game in the area is excellent – and includes many migrating species of birds not seen in the Luangwa Valley during the dry season and also the endemic species of giraffe, the Thornicroft Giraffe, not to mention the chance of seeing all the newborns! A mid morning break of tea, coffee and cake will be taken by a scenic point on a lagoon or the Luangwa River. Return to camp for lunch around mid day. After lunch you can cool off in the swimming pool or siesta. Tea will be served in the afternoon and then off on an afternoon game drive that continues into the early night giving the chance to see the nocturnal world.

Day 3: Nkwali Camp - Up for breakfast as normal and then set off with Robin on a game drive through the park to the top of a high ridge – passing through interesting country the drive will take about2 hrs. You will stop for tea at the “top of the world” before heading off on foot for the walk along the ridge and down to the river. The walk is about 10 km but will depend on weather conditions. Those who do not wish to walk can stay with the vehicle after tea and meet up with the others en route for lunch. Aiming to be back in camp mid afternoon. Depending on time there may be an after noon drive or relax in camp for sun downers – due to the nature of today and the time of year timings will be very flexible today.

Day 4: Nkwali Camp - Today will be spend with Robin on a game drive or walk depending on what the group prefers – or maybe a mixture of both. The focus will be on birding – maybe even seeing the wonderful Angola Pita. Of course you will also see all of the other animals and reptiles that pop up too. Robin will lead both the morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 5: Nkwali Camp - Another day to enjoy the game viewing at Nkwali with one of the camps experienced guides, you may wish to go on an all day picnic. Taking a scout with you, you will be able to enjoya walk or explore further a field in the park. Lunch will be under a tree or next to a lagoon and you will then be able to take a siesta or simply spend a lazy couple of hours reading a book or watching the fascinating animals and landscape around you. Returning to camp when you are ready – you may decide to continue straight on your evening drive and return to come after sun downers – this is a very flexible day.

Day 6: Nkwali Camp - Today will be spend with Robin in the remote Nsefu Sector – this is where his camps of Tena Tena and Nsefu are placed. Closed at this time of year, the only access is by boat. The trip will take you past other camps, lagoon systems with game viewing on the way – huge crocs, birds life and maybe even the odd elephant! On arrival at the designated harbour you will disembark and head off on the walk to the Stork Colony– about an hours walk (roughly 4km).

Day 7: Nkwali Camp - Your last day in the Luangwa Valley can be spent relaxing by the river, or out appreciating the wildlife in the park, either way and enjoyable day.

Day 8: After breakfast you will transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lusaka to meet your connecting flight.
